About Us

Compassionate Multicultural Aging Support in Calgary

The ZMASE is built based on the priority areas identified in a community-wide Senior AgeFriendly strategy 2015 – 2018 for a prosperous city, which responds to the needs of the aging population, Health Aging Strategic plan 2024 – 2028, directives from a comprehensive system of programs and services for seniors, primarily managed by the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services and Alberta Health Services, as well as other existing national and provincial guidelines for seniors’ programs and services. Some of the challenges experienced include social isolation, a shortage of community–based support services, and difficulties navigating the complex system.
Strategy complements the efforts of the Ministry of Assisted Living, Alberta Health Services, Calgary City Council, and other stakeholders to provide community-level services to seniors to improve seniors’ well-being and quality of life.

It focuses on increasing the number of older adults who age well at home and in their communities by expanding access to comprehensive, integrated, non-medical home- and community-based care services and reducing social isolation. The nonmedical care and support services will include housekeeping, meal preparation, meal program, snow removal, assistance with shopping, personal care, transport, companionship, participation in various social activities, and linking seniors to services they need. It is envisaged that these interventions will strengthen independence, prevent isolation, improve well-being, and reduce pressure on the health system. The nonmedical care and support services will include housekeeping, meal preparation, snow removal, shopping, personal care, transport, companionship, participation in social activities, and linking seniors to services they need.
The intervention will be implemented in Calgary, and the target population: (All older adults 55+, new immigrants and refugees, Indigenous, and LGBTQ2S seniors). Focusing on those most in need – individuals who are low-income, socially isolated, or face systemic barriers.
The ZMASE will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders: community groups, public, private, and non-profit sectors/organizations, and healthcare providers to implement the strategy.
